Motorbike rental Malaysia terms are something most people skip over, then wish they had read when a question comes up at pickup or return. At Alquiler Motorbike, the rental terms are published on the website, and they are straightforward once you know what to look for. Here is a plain-English guide to the points that matter most, so there are no surprises on the day.
Start with who can rent. You need to be at least 21 years old (23 for the Kawasaki Z900 and Ninja ZX-25RR), hold a valid motorcycle licence that suits the bike's engine class (Class B2, Class B, or an international equivalent), and show a valid photo ID at collection, such as a MyKad or passport. You also need to be fit to ride, so renting is refused if you are under the influence, and no refund is given in that case.
Next, returning the bike. Please bring it back on time: returns more than 30 minutes late are charged at least the daily rate. If you want more time, extensions depend on availability and need to be paid for in advance, so it is best to ask early rather than at the last minute. Also note that rental fees are paid upfront and are not refunded for early returns.
On cancellations, the rule is simple. Cancel at least 24 hours before your rental starts and you get a full refund. Cancel within 24 hours and the fee is not refunded. If your plans might change, it is better to cancel early.
Looking after the bike is part of the deal. Before you ride off, do a quick walk-around inspection and photograph any existing damage, so that the bike's condition at pickup is clear. During the rental, check things like tyre pressure and oil, report any problem straight away, and keep the bike secure when you park it. If something does go wrong, report it immediately. For an accident involving another party, an injury, or significant damage, a police report is required, and photos should be shared with Alquiler Motorbike. In the case of theft, it must be reported to both the police and Alquiler Motorbike within 6 hours of discovery.
Accessories are covered too. The free standard helmet that comes with every rental should be returned in good condition, and a lost or damaged helmet is charged at full retail cost. Minor cosmetic scratches are fine, but structural damage is not.
Insurance is worth understanding. Alquiler Motorbike does not provide personal health or accident insurance, so riders are strongly encouraged to arrange their own cover. There is also an optional add-on at RM10 per rental day, which includes accidental damage protection for cosmetic damage up to RM500 per rental, theft assistance up to 50% of the bike's value, 24/7 roadside assistance within 30 km of Kuala Lumpur, and priority replacement subject to availability. It must be bought before your rental begins. Certain things are not covered, such as engine failure that is not a factory fault, off-road or racing use, and traffic violations.
A few other rules are good to know. Subleasing is not allowed, so only the person named on the rental should ride the bike. Odometer tampering is a serious offence. And as with any bike, you are expected to follow Malaysian traffic laws.
Reading the terms takes a few minutes, and it saves a lot of confusion later. Once you are happy with them, you can browse the catalogue, pick your bike, and book online at www.alquilermotorbike.com. Pickup is at Base 3 Parks, Jalan PJU 7/1, Mutiara Damansara, open Monday to Saturday, 11 AM to 7 PM, with a free standard helmet included.
